BERLIN, Germany, May 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Berlin unveiled a
monument yesterday to honor ? as victims of Nazi persecution, despite a growing body of research
suggesting that many prominent Nazi authorities, including Adolph Hitler, were themselves actively
homosexual.
A report yesterday from the Associated Press on the new Berlin concrete
monument, which features a video of two men kissing, claimed that up to 15,000 active ? were killed in
Nazi concentration camps.
"This is symptomatic for a society... that did not abolish unjust
verdicts, but partially continued to implement them; a society which did not acknowledge a group of people as
victims, only because they chose another way of life," said actively homosexual Berlin mayor Klaus
Wowereit.
The latest push to portray active ? as victims of systematic
Nazi attack contrasted with a recently growing body of evidence indicating wide-scale Nazi embrace of
homosexuality.
In her 2006 study “The Pink
Swastika as Holocaust Revisionist History,” renowned expert on sexuality
Judith A. Reisman of the Institute for Media Education revealed that the 1995 “The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in
the Nazi Party” by Scott Lively and Kevin Abrams demonstrates that many key actively homosexual Nazi officials
protected many homosexual individuals from harm.
“Lively and Abrams… document the homosexual movement as the agents that
ensconced National Socialism (the Nazi party) and Adolf Hitler, thus triggering a holocaust which engulfed all of
Europe,” wrote Resiman.
While Hitler’s “Mein
Kampf” degraded Jews, Marxists, Negroes, Chinese, Arabs, women, and
Eastern Europeans, the Fuhrer had no negative remarks for homosexuality.
Instead, Hitler chose actively homosexual men as influential youth
leaders.
An actively homosexual teacher, Karl Fischer, founded the “Wandervogel”
boys’ group that became the Hitler Youth in 1933 under renowned pederast, Hans Blueher. Similarly, convicted Nazi
pederast Edmund Heines was given leadership over Schill Youth.
“Other homosexual and bisexual leaders cited by these and other authors
included Bladur von Schirach, Hitler Youth Leader; Hans Frank, Hitler’s Minister of Justice; Wilhelm Bruckner,
Hitler’s adjutant; Walther Funk, Hitler’s Minister of Economics; friend and advisor Hermann Goering, Hitler’s
second in command (who dressed “in drag and wore camp make-up”),” added Reisman.
“The Pink
Swastika” convincingly undermined comparisons between the persecution of
Jews and of ?, contended Resiman.
“Lively and Abrams report that basic mathematics refute the idea that
? were killed for being homosexual. If ? were treated like Jews, 2-3 million out of 2-3
million German ? should have lost their businesses, their jobs, their property, their possessions and
most should have lost their lives.”
“? would have been forced to wear pink triangles on their
clothing in the streets, they would have had their passports stamped with an “H,” barred from travel, work,
shopping, public appearances without their armbands, and we would have thousands of pictures of pink triangle
graffiti saying ‘kill the faggots,’ and the like.”
Lively and Abrams were not the first to identify the homosexuality that
permeated the highest Nazi ranks.
“Adolf Hitler’s homosexuality has been demonstrated beyond question by
German historian Lothar Machtan’s massively researched new book,The
Hidden Hitler….But the crucial role within the Nazi movement of the most
vicious and lawless types of homosexuality, which Machtan also shows, is even more important than Hitler’s personal
preference,” Resiman quoted Dr. Nathaniel S. Lehrman, former clinical director of Kingsboro Psychiatric
Center.
Resiman also noted that the work of Lively and Abrams contains important
lessons about the Nazi-like tactics of the contemporary “gay” agenda.
“The Pink
Swastika finds that serious ‘Judeo-Christians’ are the likely
targets of this resurgent homosexual movement. In 1934, all German school children were receiving textual, verbal
and cinematic classroom indoctrination into Fascism.”
“The libraries purged anti Nazi books and teachers, just as our libraries
are purging anti-homosexuality books and teachers. And, like our current status, by 1936, sexuality advocate,
Wilheim Reich warned that the wide availability and juvenile use of pornography was creating heterophobic German
children--boys and girls who feared and distrusted the opposite sex.”
“The Pink
Swastika should be studied in all our schools, primary to
university,” concluded Resiman.
“Historical research on Nazi homosexual power should be pouring out from
our institutions of higher learning. That universities are captured by “politically correct” homosexual/feminism
only proves how dangerous fraud in science has been and continues to be for our nation.”
Review: Pink Swastika,
Homosexuality in the Nazi Party,by Scott Lively and Kevin E. Abrams, Founders Publishing Corporation, Keiser, Oregon, 1997,
ISBN: 0964760932. Not everyone should read this book. Nevertheless,
the information contained in this impressive documentary is important for us to consider. History tends to
repeat itself. You need to know the common origins of the Nazi and homosexual gay rights movements, and how that
affects Christians today.
About 1992, the traveling Anne Frank Exhibit came to
Portland, Oregon. My daughter Barbara and I carefully studied the
exhibit, and spoke to a Holocaust survivor. I noted at the time that the exhibit emphasized that the Nazis sent
Jewsand ? to
the concentration camps. The message was that both Jews and homosexals were victims of Nazism. I now realize
that I had been partially brainwashed.
I did not need to be convinced of the reality of the
death camps, and persecution of the Jews, for we were good friends of fellow Oregonian Hans
Bieglizer. Hans grew up in an immigrant Polish Jewish family in Bonn,
Germany, and suffered terribly through the Nazi Reich. His story is told in the January and February, 1968,
issues ofThe Good News magazine, in articles he wrote, Preview of the Tribulation, and Deutschland unter Gott!
As a fellow believer in the Church of God, we appreciated Hans humor and keen intelligence. He used to joke
about the Polish Jews and the Orange Jews (Juice). He had to have humor to surviveboth the Auschwitz and Dachau death
camps!
Back to the book, The
Pink Swastika. American Gay militants portray all who
oppose their objectives as Nazis. Perhaps youve seen a Gay Pride Parade where hundreds of pink triangles
(symbols forced on accused ? in Nazi camps) are worn or carried. Authors Lively and Abrams (an
Orthodox Jew) expose the Big Lie that the Nazis were Anti-Gay. The Nazis were NOT Anti-Gay; they were Anti-Femme
(anti-effeminate homosexual). Pink Triangle prisoners in concentration camps were often the sex-slaves of the
SS-SA; the death-camp guards who were often former members of the Brownshirts (SA); a notoriously masculine
homosexual organization founded by Ernst Roehm; the openly Butch Gay man who was the mentor and buddy of Adolf
Hitler. Indeed, the party that later became known as the Nazi Party was founded in a Butch Gay Bar in Munich!
Lively and Abrams prove that the roots of Naxism can be found in Homo-fascism and Homo-occultism, and that the
roots of the gay rights movement in America can be traced directly to the Society for Human Rights, the butch
Gay Rights organization in which Roehm and other early Nazi leaders were members and founders. This movement
sought to legalize all forms of homosexual acts.
There is a spectrum among the homosexual
community. On one side are the feminine male ?. On the other
side are the butch ?, extremely masculine and contemptuous of feminine ?. Understanding this
internal antagonism explains how Nazi homosexual thugs would persecute effeminate ?. We have been
duped into believing that all male ? are effeminate, when this is NOT the case!
Homosexuality of all kinds exploded in Germany in the
late 1800s, and led naturally to the formation of the Nazi Party. Roehm, Hitler, Hess, Goering, Heydrich, and many, many, other leading Nazis were
sexually perverted. The book provides evidence that, as a youth, Hitler was a male prostitute in Vienna and
Munich. Throughout his life, Hitler surrounded himself with ?, although he was not exclusively
homosexual. He engaged in other, even more unspeakable, sexual vices. Hitlers greatest hero was Frederick the
Great (1712-1786), a well-known homosexual. Hitlers buddy Roehm, who had to be purged in 1934 because his
flagrant sexual excesses were offending the general public, was a homosexual and pederast (molester of young
boys). The Nazis interned only 5,000-15,000 ? out of 2-3 million German ?. Many of the pink
triangle prisoners in Nazi camps were falsely accused of being homosexual. The public pronouncement of Nazis
such as Himmler against ? was mere window dressing so as to not advertise the fact the Nazis were
riddled with ?. Hitlers fascist dictator friend, Italys Benito Mussolini, referred to Hitler as that
horrible sexual degenerate. Homosexuality has been termed the German vice, due to its prevalence in
Germany.
The sexual perversion of homosexuality easily lends
itself to authoritarian impulses. When a society accepts a moral relativistic philosophy (leading to acceptance
of homosexuality) it could very well lead to the eventual destruction of our constitutional rights. The authors
show that the reason why the Nazis were so anti-semitic had to do with historical reasons. The Jewish culture
with its Biblical ethical system was implacably opposed to the macho-gay/warrior mentality that dominated so
much of ancient Europe, especially ancient Rome and Greece. These ancient pagan cultures, which glorified sex
between warriors, were worshiped by the Nazis who blamed the Jews for the introduction of Biblical morality,
which, of course, condemned homosexuality and ended much of the pagan lifestyle in Europe. The basis of any
human civilization is a moral and healthy sexual constitution. When
sexual morality goes south, Gods people are naturally persecuted.
And so it is, that the wrath of the Nazis was against
those who stood for Bible morality and the sanctity of the family. Nazism was merely a Twentieth-Century revival of ancient Greco-Roman paganism, which
exalted homosexuality. In fact, the whole six thousand years of struggle between the forces of good and evil in
human history has been one of sexual morality versus sexual immorality. Pagan religions of Egypt, Persia,
Carthage, Babylon, and Assyria were all steeped in pederastic (man-boy sex) tradition. Male homosexual temple
prostitutes existed in the worship of Ishtar and Astarte in Syria, Babylon, and Canaan, who were the neighbors
of the Israelites, and in Crete and Ephesus in the Greek world. The ancient religion of Baal had male cult
prostitutes, I Kings 14:24, which is condemned by God, Deuteronomy 23:17. The Roman Empire, which can be
considered a type of the Christian holocaust, homosexual sadistic emperors of Rome, tortured and persecuted
Christians, who stood for Biblical sexual morality. Fourteen of the first fifteen Roman emperors were
homosexual. As the Romans persecuted Christians, so the Nazis persecuted the Jews.
The Pink Swastikahits home in explaining the hatred of homosexual
occult pagans toward those who stand for Bible morality. We have the
same thing developing today in our society. The homosexual movement is diametrically opposed to those who stand
for Bible morality. They are dedicated to the destruction of the family and the closing of churches who oppose
their agenda. In Germany, theWandervoegel boys clubs were breeding grounds for homosexuality prior to the ascent of the Nazis. So
today, the Boy Scouts of America are a target of ?. From 1973 to 1993, over 1,416 scout leaders were
expelled for abusing boys. There is a juggernaut toward pushing the gay and lesbian
agenda.
Lively and Abrams note that Mani, for whom Manichaeism
is named, was a Third-Century prince of Babylon who devised his own form of Gnosticism. Gnostics blended pagan
sex rituals and Mother Goddess worship with elements of New Testament Christianity, rejecting the Old Testament
God as an evil demon. Manichaeism imposed on Gnosticism a caste system
of leaders (elect) and followers (hearers). The heretical sect of Bogomils arose in Bulgaria and spread across
Europe. Later called Cathars, Bogomils were infiltrated heavily by Manichaeans. Homosexuality became so closely
associated with Bulgarian Bogomils that the practice became known as buggery. The word for Cathar in most
European languages came to be the word for homosexual,Ketzer in German,Gazarro in Italian,Herite in French. One writer says that Heresy
and homosexuality became so interchangeable that those accused of heresy attempted to prove their innocence by
claiming heterosexuality. Bogomils, as we know, were remnants of Gods Church during the Dark Ages. Even they
were apparently infiltrated by ?!
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not
since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be, Matthew 24:21. Could it be that the coming great holocaust will pit sadistic ? against Bible
believers? The chilling facts given in the book,The Pink
Swastika should make us realize that we cannot compromise with
evil, no matter what the consequences.
John commended those in Thyatira who had not known the
depths of Satan, Revelation 2:24. It is dangerous to read much about Nazis and ?.
Evil has a power to enmesh those who delve too deeply into it. Sexual perversion is at the core of Satanic
belief. May God guide His people to remain pure in thoughts and deeds. This Preview of the Tribulation should be
enough for us to follow the Eternal now, and escape all these things to come to pass, Revelation
3:10.
Socially sensitive high schools all over the country, particularly in
California, have established a safe zone for homosexual students who feel harassed or persecuted. This area is
a painted Pink Triangle located somewhere on campus, where the student can go and be away from harassment. An
administrator is then expected to rush to the student's immediate aid and administer comfort.
However, the history of the pink triangle, as with many other historical icons,
is not what the homosexual community would like us all to believe. In fact, the “gay rights” movement has
hijacked other movements, often portraying itself as an American phenomenon which arose from the civil rights
movement of the 1950s. It is not uncommon to hear homosexualists (those both “gay” and “straight” which promote
the legitimization of homosexuality) characterize “gay rights” as the natural third wave of civil rights
activism (following blacks and women). In reality, however, Germany was the birthplace of “gay rights,” and its
legacy in that nation is truly alarming.
As the badge used by the Nazis to designate ? in the concentration
camps, the pink triangle perfectly expresses the message of “gay rights.” That message is that ? are
currently and historically victims of irrational prejudice and that those who oppose homosexuality are hateful
bigots. This all-important victim status engenders sympathy for the homosexual “cause” among well-meaning
heterosexuals. Thus, millions of otherwise rational Americans support a movement whose sole unifying
characteristic is a sexual lifestyle they personally find repugnant. When ? display the pink
triangle, they are equating all opposition to homosexuality with Nazism and themselves with the Jewish victims
of the Holocaust. Clever.
Free Republicdid extensive
research into ? and the real and correct history of the pink triangle. While a relative few
? were interned in Nazi work camps, the role of ? in Nazi history is not accurately
represented by the pink triangle. Their review of more than 200 history and other texts written since the 1930s
suggests that a pink swastika would be equally appropriate: while some ? were jailed by the Nazi
party, there is no doubt that the Nazi party itself had many ? within its own ranks, even among its
highest leadership.
Many "butch" ? were drawn to and joined the Nazi party. It was the
"butch" or manly ? that considered themselves as a breed of men superior in masculine qualities even
to heterosexuals, ultra-masculine, male-supremacist and pederastic (devoted to man/boy sex). It was the
loathing which these “Butches” held for effeminate ? (“Femmes”) which led to the internment of some
of the latter in slave labor camps in the Third Reich.
The men who orchestrated the Nazi campaign of intimidation and terror were almost
all homosexual and practiced supremacy and militarism.
Many of the Nazi emblems, such as the swastika, the double lightning bolt SS
symbol, and even the inverted triangle symbol used to identify classes of prisoners in the concentration camps,
originated with Guido von List and the List-Gesellschaft (“Guido von List Society”) . The Guido von List
Society practiced a form of tantric sexual perversion popularized in occult circles by Aleister Crowley.
According to J. Sydney Jones, these men enjoyed “playing with black magic and little boys.”
The attraction of fascism for ? appears in the history of other
countries as well. Pro-Nazi fascist organizations in both England and France were headed by ?. Adolph
Hitler was thought to be a homosexual who surrounded himself with other homosexual men as he rose to power.
Hitler seemed to prefer homosexual companions and coworkers. In addition to Rohm and Hess, two of his closest
friends, Hitler filled key positions with known or suspected ?, all part of the "butch" homosexual
Nazi movement.
A psychiatrist was commissioned by the Allies in 1943 to prepare a thorough
psychological profile of Hitler. His report, kept under wraps for 29 years was published in book form in 1972
as The Mind of Adolf Hitler. He wrote that Hitler was certainly a coprophile (a person who is sexually aroused
by human excrement) and may have practiced homosexuality as an adult. Hitler, if homosexual, was certainly not
exclusively so. There are at least four women, including his own niece, with whom Hitler had sexual
relationships, although these relationships were not normal. Both historians Waite and Langer suggest that his
sexual encounters with women included expressions of his coprophilic perversion as well as other extremely
degrading forms of masochism. It is interesting to note that all four women attempted suicide after becoming
sexually involved with Hitler. Two succeeded. (Free Republic)
There is one particular reason why the Nazis arrested ? and raided even
the homes of their supporters. They were looking for incriminating evidence against themselves (the Nazi
leaders). Blackmail of ? by estranged partners and prostitutes was a simple fact of life in Germany.
Attacks against the known ? was not motivated solely by the Nazi enmity against effeminate
?. It was an attempt to cover up the truth about rampant homosexuality and other perversions in the
Nazi Party. Sklar writes that “Hitler attempted to bury all his earlier influences and his origins, and he
spent a great deal of energy hiding them. Magnus Hirschfeld's Sex Research Institute was attacked and shut
down. Director Hirschfield wrote:"[O]ur Institute was used by all
classes of the population and members of every political party...We thus had a great many Nazis under treatment
at the Institute. Why was it then, since we were completely non-party, that our purely scientific Institute was
the first victim which fell to the new regime? The answer to this is simple...We knew too much. It would be
against medical principles to provide a list of the Nazi leaders and their perversions [but]...not ten percent
of the men who, in 1933, took the fate of Germany into their hands, were sexually normal...Many of these
personages were known to us directly through consultations; we heard about others from their comrades in the
party...and of others we saw the tragic results....Our knowledge of such intimate secrets regarding members of
the Nazi Party and other documentary material — we possessed about forty thousand confessions and biographical
letters — was the cause of the complete and utter destruction of the Institute of
Sexology."
Aside from the homosexual cleansing of the SA, Hitler retained all of the other
sexual deviants of his inner circle, including Goering, Streicher, Frank, Emile and Weber.
The enduring “Butch/Femme” conflict among German ? clearly had a
substantial bearing on the treatment of pink triangle prisoners. Plant writes of one survivor who reported that
“the guards lashed out with special fury against those who showed ‘effeminate traits.’” Butch ?
attacked and killed effeminate ?, often after using the younger men and boys
The probable reason for Hitler's attack on Christianity as well as Judaism was
his perception that Christianity alone had the moral authority to stop the Nazi movement. The "faith" that some
refer to that animated Hitler was not Christianity but a racist version of Social Darwinism's emphasis on
survival of the fittest. And the reason Hitler could put his faith into practice is because of a powerful
government apparatus; although the left hates to admit it, National Socialism was one type of socialism. Much
has been made of the reported silence, and in some cases complicity, of the supposed Christian churches during
the Third Reich. But few have noted the long period of “Biblical deconstruction” that preceded the rise of
Nazism, and fewer still have chronicled the diabolical perversion of German religious culture by the Nazis
themselves. (Biblical deconstructionism is what is happening in America) While the neo-pagans were busy
attacking from without, liberal theologians undermined Biblical authority from within the Christian church. The
school of so-called “higher criticism,” which began in Germany in the late 1800s, portrayed the miracles of God
as myths, by implication making true believers (Jew and Christian alike) into fools. And since the Bible was no
longer accepted as God's divine and inerrant guide, it could be ignored or reinterpreted. By the time the Nazis
came to power, “Bible-believing” Christians (the Confessing Church), were a small minority.
Despite their disproportionate role, ? did not cause the Holocaust.
They, along with so many others who had lost their moral bearings, were merely instruments in its enactment.
Yet, while we cannot say that ? caused the Holocaust, we must not ignore their central role in
Nazism. To the myth of the pink triangle -- the notion that all ? in Nazi Germany were persecuted --
we must respond with the truth of the pink swastika.
(Much of this is excerpts from The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi
Party (Founders Publishing Corporation, 1995) by Scott Lively and Kevin E. Abrams)
Do educators really know the history of the Pink triangle? No. They would never
have chosen this symbol for "safety." It's no wonder that American kids are vastly undereducated, with
decisions such as the use of the Pink Triangle, being made. Too much feel-good and not enough
academics.
10,000 gay people were slaughtered in the Nazi death-camps. Many more were humiliated, jailed,
deported, ethnically cleansed, or castrated. One gay survivor of the camps, LD Classen von Neudegg, has
written about his experiences. A snapshot: “Three men had tried to escape one night. They were captured,
and when they returned they had the word ‘homo’ scrawled across their clothing. They were placed on a block
and whipped. Then they were forced to beat a drum and cheer, ‘Hurrah! We’re back! Hurrah!’ Then they were
hanged.” This is one of the milder events documented in his book.
So the idea of a gay fascist seems ridiculous. Yet when the British National Party – our own
home-grown Holocaust-denying bigots – announced it was fielding an openly gay candidate in the European
elections this June, dedicated followers of fascism didn’t blink. The twisted truth is that gay men have
been at the heart of every major fascist movement that ever was – including the gay-gassing, homo-cidal
Third Reich. With the exception of Jean-Marie Le Pen, all the most high-profile ? in Europe in the
past thirty years have been gay. It’s time to admit something. Fascism isn’t something that happens out
there, a nasty habit acquired by the straight boys. It is - in part, at least - a gay thing, and it’s time
for non-fascist gay people to wake up and face the marching music.
Just look at our own continent over the past decade. Dutch fascist Pim Fortuyn ran on blatantly
racist anti-immigrant platform, describing Islam as “a cancer” and “the biggest threat to Western
civilisation today.” Yet with two little fluffy dogs and a Mamma complex, he was openly, flamboyantly gay.
When accused by a political opponent of hating Arabs, he replied, “How can I hate Arabs? I sucked one off
last night.”
Jorg Haider blasted Austria’s cosy post-Nazi politics to rubble in 2000 when his neo-fascist ‘Freedom
Party’ won a quarter of the vote and joined the country’s government as a coalition partner. Several facts
always cropped up in the international press coverage: his square jaw, his muscled torso, his SS-supporting
father, his rabid anti-Semitism, his hatred of immigrants, his description of Auschwitz and Dachau as
“punishment centres”. A few newspapers mentioned that he is always surrounded by fit, fanatical young men.
A handful went further and pointed out that several of these young men are openly gay. Then one left-wing
German paper broke the story everybody else was hinting at. They alleged Haider is gay.
Rumours of an Indian waiter with “intimate details” of Haider’s body broke into the press. The
Freedom Party’s general manager Gerald Miscka quickly quit, amid accusations that he was Haider’s lover.
Haider’s close gay friend Walter Kohler – who has been photographed showing off a holstered pistol while
Haider chuckled – declared his opposition to outing politicians. Haider – who is married and has two
children – kept quiet while his functionaries denied the rumours. He has quietly dropped out of politics
since.
On and on it goes. If you inter-railed across Europe, only stopping with gay ?, there
aren’t many sights you’d miss. France’s leading post-war fascist was Edouard Pfieffer, who was not batting
for the straight side. Germany’s leading neo-Nazi all through the eighties was called Michael Kuhnen; he
died of AIDS in 1991 a few years after coming out. Martin Lee, author of a study of European fascism,
explains, “For Kuhnen, there was something supermacho about being a Nazi, as well as being a homosexual,
both of which enforced his sense of living on the edge, of belonging to an elite that was destined to make
an impact. He told a West German journalist that ? were ‘especially well-suited for our task,
because they do not want ties to wife, children and family.’”
And it wouldn’t be long before your whistlestop tour arrived in Britain. At first glance, our
Nazis seem militantly straight. They have tried to disrupt gay parades, describe gay people as “evil”, and
BNP leader Nick Griffin reacted charmingly to the bombing of the Admiral Duncan pub in 1999 with a column
saying, “The TV footage of gay demonstrators [outside the scene of carnage] flaunting their perversion in
front of the world’s journalists showed just why so many ordinary people find these creatures
repulsive.”
But scratch to homophobic surface and there’s a spandex swastika underneath. In 1999, Martin
Webster, a former National Front organiser and head honcho in the British fascist movement, wrote a
four-page pamphlet detailing his ‘affair’ with Nick Griffin. “Griffin sought out intimate relations with
me,” openly-gay Webster explained, “in the late 1970s. He was twenty years younger than me.” Ray Hill, who
infiltrated the British fascist movement for twelve years to gather information for anti-fascist groups,
says it’s all too plausible. Homosexuality is “extremely prevalent” in the upper echelons of the British
far right, and at one stage in the 1980s nearly half of the movement’s organisers were gay, he
claims.
Gerry Gable, editor of the anti-fascist magazine ‘Searchlight’, explains, “I have looked at
Britain’s Nazi groups for decades and this homophobic hypocrisy has been there all the time. I cannot think
of any organisation on the extreme right that hasn’t attacked people on the grounds of their sexual
preference and at the same time contained many gay officers and activists.”
Griffins’ alleged gay affair would stand in a long British fascist tradition. The leader of the skinhead
movement all through the 1970s was a crazed, muscled thug called Nicky Crane. He was the icon of a
reactionary backlash against immigrants, feminism and the ‘hippy’ lifetsyle of the 1960s. His movement’s
emphasis on conformity to a shaven, dehumanised norm resembled classical fascist movements; Crane soon
became a campaigner and leading figure in the National Front. Oh, and he was gay. Before he died of AIDS in
the mid-1980s, Crane came out and admitted he had starred in many gay porn videos. Just before he died in
1986, he was allowed to steward a Gay Pride march in London, even though he still said he was “proud to be
a fascist.”
The rubber-soled friction between gay ? and progressive British gay people sparked into
anger in 1985 when the Gay Skinhead Movement organised a disco at London’s Gay Centre. Several lesbians in
particular objected to the “invasion” of the centre. They felt that the cult of “real men” and
hypermasculine thugs was stirring up the most base feelings “in the very place, the gay movement, where you
would least expect them.”
And this Gaystapo has an icon to revere, an alternative Fuhrer to worship: the lost gay fascist
leader Ernst Rohm. Along with Adolf Hitler, Rohm was the founding father of Nazism. Born to conservative
Bavarian civil servants in 1887, Ernst Rohm’s life began – in his view – in the “heroic” trenches of the
First World War. Like so many of the generation who formed the Nazi Party, he was nurtured by and obsessed
with the homoerotic myth of the trenches – heroic, beautiful boys prepared to die for their brothers and
their country.
He emerged from the war with a bullet-scarred face and a reverence for war. As he put it in his
autobiography, “Since I am an immature and wicked man, war and unrest appeal to me more than the good
bourgeois order.” After being disbanded, he tried half-heartedly to get a foothold in civilian life, but he
saw it as alien, bourgeois, boring. He had no political beliefs, only prejudices – particularly hatred of
Jews. Historian Joachim Fest describes Rohm’s generation of alienated, demobbed young men humiliated by
defeat as “agents of a permanent revolution without any revolutionary idea of the future, only a wish to
eternalize the values of the trenches.”
It was Rohm who first spotted the potential of a soap-box ranter called Adolf Hitler. He saw him
as the demagogue he needed to mobilize support for his plan to overthrow democracy and establish a
“soldier’s state” where the army ruled untrammelled. He introduced the young fascist to local politicians
and military leaders; they knew him for many years as “Rohm’s boy.” Gay historian Frank Rector notes,
“Hitler was, to a substantial extent, Rohm’s protégé.” Rohm integrated Hitler into his underground movement
to overthrow the Weimar Republic.
Rohm’s blatant, out homosexuality seems bizarre now, given the gay genocide that was to follow.
He talked openly about his fondness for gay bars and Turkish baths, and was known for his virility. He
believed that gay people were superior to straights, and saw homosexuality as a key principle of his
proposed Brave New Fascist Order. As historian Louis Snyder explains, Rohm “projected a social order in
which homosexuality would be regarded as a human behaviour pattern of high repute… He flaunted his
homosexuality in public and insisted his cronies do the same. He believed straight people weren’t as adept
at bullying and aggression as ?, so homosexuality was given a high premium in the SA.” They
promoted an aggressive, hypermasculine form of homosexuality, condemning “hysterical women of both sexes”,
in reference to feminine gay men.
This belief in the superiority of homosexuality had a strong German tradition that grew up at
the turn of the twentieth century around Adolf Brand, publisher of the country’s first gay magazine. You
could call it ‘Queer as Volk’: they preached that gay men were the foundation of all nation-states and
represented an elite, warrior caste that should rule. They venerated the ancient warrior cults of Sparta,
Thebes and Athens.
Rohm often referred to the ancient Greek tradition of sending gay solider couples into battle, because they
were believed to be the most ferocious fighters. The famous pass of Thermopylae, for example was held by
300 soldiers – who consisted of 150 gay couples. In its early years, the SA – Hitler and Rohm’s underground
army – was seen as predominantly gay. Rohm assigned prominent posts to his lovers, making Edmund Heines his
deputy and Karl Ernst the SA commander in Berlin. The organisation would sometimes meet in gay bars. The
gay art historian Christian Isermayer said in an interview, “I got to know people in the SA. They used to
throw riotous parties even in 1933… I once attended one. It was quite well-behaved but thoroughly gay. But
then, in those days, the SA was ultra-gay.”
On June 30th 1934, Rohm was awoken in a Berlin hotel by Hitler himself. He sprang to his feet
and saluted, calling, “Heil Mein Fuhrer!” Hitler said simply, “You are under arrest,” and with that he left
the room, giving orders for Rohm to be taken to Standelheim prison. He was shot that night. Rohm was the
most high-profile kill in the massacre known as ‘the Night of the Long Knives’.
Rohm had been suspected by Hitler of disloyalty, but his murder began a massive crackdown on gay
people. Heinrich Himmler, head of the Gestapo, described homosexuality as “a symptom of degeneracy that
could destroy our race. We must return to the guiding Nordic principle: extermination of
degenerates.”
German historian Lothar Machtan argues that Hitler had Rohm – and almost all of the large number
of gay figures within the SA – killed to silence speculation about his own homosexual experiences. His
‘evidence’ for Hitler being gay is shaky and has been questioned by many historians, although some of his
findings are at least suggestive. A close friend of Hitler’s during his teenager years, August Kubizek,
alleged a “romantic” affair between them. Hans Mend, a despatch rider who served alongside Hitler in the
First World War, claimed to have seen Hitler having sex with a man. Hitler was certainly very close to
several gay men, and never seems to have had a normal sexual relationship with a woman, not even his wife,
Eva Braun.
Rudolph Diels, the founder of the Gestapo, recorded some of Hitler’s private thoughts on
homosexuality. “It had destroyed ancient Greece, he said. Once rife, it extended its contagious effects
like an ineluctable law of nature to the best and most manly of characters, eliminating from the breeding
pool the very men the Volk most needs.” This idea – that homosexuality is ‘contagious’ and, implicitly,
tempting – is revelaing.
Rohm is venerated on the Homo-Nazi sites that have bred on the internet like germs in a wound.
They have names like Gays Against Semitism (with the charming acronym GAS), and the Aryan Resistance Corps
(ARC). Their Rohmite philosophy is simple: while white men are superior to other races, gay men are “the
masters of the Master Race”. They alone are endowed with the “capacity for pure male bonding” and the
“superior intellect” that is needed for “a fascist revolution.” The ARC even organises holiday
“get-togethers” for its members where “you can relax amongst the company of our fellow white
brothers.”
So it’s fairly easy to establish that gay people are not inoculated from fascism. They have
often been at its heart. This begs the bigger question: why? How did gay people – so often victims of
oppression and hate – become integral to the most hateful and evil political movement of all? Is it just an
extreme form of self-harm, the political equivalent to the gay kids who slash their own arms to ribbons out
of self-hate?
Gay pornographer and film-maker Bruce LaBruce has one explanation. He claims that “all gay porn
today is implictly fascist. Fascism is in our bones, because it’s all about glorifying white male supremacy
and fetishizing domination, cruelty, power and monstrous authority figures.” He has tried to explore the
relationship between homosexuality and fascism in his movies, beginning with ‘No Skin Off My Ass’ in 1991.
In his disturbing 1999 film “Skin Flick’, a bourgeois gay couple – one black, one white – are sexually
terrorised by a gang of gay skinheads who beat off to ‘Mein Kampf’ and beat up ‘femmes’. He implies that
bourgeois gay norms quickly break down to reveal a fascist lurking underneath; the movie ends with the
black character being raped in front of his half-aroused white lover, as the racist gang chant, “Fuck the
monkey.”
I decided to track down some gay ? and ask them directly. Wyatt Powers, director of the
ARC, says, “I always knew in my heart racist and gay were both morally right. I don’t see any conflict
between them. It’s only the Jew-owned gay press that tries to convince us that racialism is the same thing
as homophobia. You can be an extreme nationalist and gay without any contradiction at all.”
One comment board on a gay racist website goes even further into racist lunacy. One gay man from
Ohio says, “Even if you are gay and white, or retarded and white, YOU ARE WHITE, BOTTOM LINE! Instead of
letting the white race go extinct because of worthless races such as the Africans or Mexicans popping out
literally millions of babies a day, we have to fight this fucked up shit they are doing. They are raping
our country.” It’s true that racism and homophobia do not necessarily overlap – but as Rabbi Bernard
Melchman explains, “Homophobia and anti-Semitism are so often part of the same disease.” Racists are
usually homophobic. Even after reading all their web rantings, I didn’t feel any closer to understanding
why so many gay men ally themselves with people who will almost always turn on them in the end, just as the
Nazis did.
Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell has a sensitive and intriguing explanation. “There are many
reasons for this kind of thing,” he says. “Some of them are in denial. They are going for
hyper-masculinity, the most extreme possible way of being a man. It’s a way of ostentatiously rejecting the
perceived effeminacy of the homosexual ‘Other’. These troubled men have a simple belief in their minds:
‘Straight men are tough. Queers are weak. Therefore if I’m tough I can’t be queer.’ It’s a desperate way of
proving their manhood.”
‘Searchlight’ magazine – the bible of the anti-fascist movement, with moles in every major
far-right organisation – offers an alternative explanation. “Generally condemned by a society that
continues to be largely hostile to gays, some men may find refuge and a new power status in the far right,”
one of their writers has explained. “Through adherence to the politics espoused by fascist groups, a new
identity emerges – one where they aren’t outcasts, because they are White Men, superior to everyone else.
They render the gay part of their identity invisible – or reject the socially less acceptable parts, like
being feminine – while vaunting what they see as superior.”
But there’s another important question: will fascist movements inevitably turn on gay people? In
the case of the Nazis, it seems to have been fairly arbitrary; Hitler’s main reason for killing Rohm was
unrelated to his sexuality. From my perspective as a progressive-minded leftie, all fascism is evil; but
should all gay people see it as inimical to their interests? Is it possible to have a gay fascist who
wasn’t acting against his own interests? Fascism is often defined as “a political ideology advocating
hierarchical government that systematically denies equality to certain groups.” It’s true that this
hierarchy could benefit gay people at the expense of, say, black people. But given the prevalence of
homophobia, isn’t that – even for people who don’t see fascism as inherently evil – a terrible risk to
take? Won’t a culture that turns viciously on one minority get around to gay people in the end? This seems,
ultimately, to be the lesson of Ernst Rohm’s pitiful, squalid little life.
The growing awareness of the role gay men play in fascist movements has been abused by some
homophobes. In an especially nutty work of revisionist history called ‘The Pink Swastika’, the ‘historian’
Scott Lively tries to blame gay people for the entire Holocaust, and describes the murder of gay men in the
camps as merely “gay-on-gay violence.” A typical website commenting on the book claims absurdly, “The Pink
Swastika shows that there was far more brutality, rape, torture and murder committed against innocent
people by Nazi ? than there even was against ? themselves.”
Yet we can’t allow these madmen to prevent a period of serious self-reflection from the gay
movement. If Bruce LaBruce is right, many of the mainstream elements of gay culture – body worship, the
lauding of the strong, a fetish for authority figures and cruelty – provide a swamp in which the fascist
virus can thrive. It’s time all gay people realised that ? will not bring on a Fabulous Solution for
gay people. They will bring a Final Solution for us all.
Some intelligent responses to this piece can be read at:
Linda Semple sent the following important correction:
"Excellent article on the gay/nazi overlap. Have to put you right though - you say: \'The
rubber-soled friction between gay ? and
progressive British gay people sparked into anger in 1985 when the Gay Skinhead Movement organised a disco
at London’s Gay Centre. Several lesbians in particular objected to the “invasion” of the centre.
\'
this is one of the false memories of the LLGC - of which I was a Director/Steering Group member.
GSM never organised a disco, but some lesbians did object to Sadie Maisie club and the Lesbian and Gay SM
group
meeting at the centre; the canard about the GSM was an attempt to discredit the Centre when we agreed to
the iscos/meetings but imposed a strict (!) ban on all nazi regalia.
Emma Healey\'s book \'Lesbian Sex Wars\' is quite a good source on all of this although she
misses the opportunity to follow up and look at the subsequent development of the groups \'Sexual Fringe\'
and \'Feminists Against Censorship\' which were probably much more significant in the development of a
unique London Queer sensibility in those years."
Kenyon wrote from the US to say:
"I just wanted to tell you that someone sent me your essay on the links between homosexual
identity and fascism. s a Black gay man who notices fascist (largely white supremacist) tendendcies in the
gay cimmunity in America, I found it very helpful for my work as an writer and activist, if not
distrubing.
In any case I am in the process of building a website with some of my writing as well. Feel free
to take a look (and respond if you are so moved): www.cynamonstick.com"
D. Millman pointed out:
"interesting piece, but one error. The Spartans Leonidas led at Thermopylae weren't gay. They
were 'equals' -- full citizens -- by
definition, married men over the age of the 30. These ones were also fathers of living sons, since this was
known to be a suicide mission.
The 300 gay men you're thinking about constituted the Theban Sacred Band: 150 couples, each
constitued of one older, and one younger homosexual, in a paired 'mentoring' sort of arrangment. Alexander
the Great
slaughtered them all after his victory at the battle of Leuktra in 371 B.C."
